The Contemporary Art Centre was founded in 2011 by Gela Tsuladze, an artist of Georgian-French origin. The Centre continuous conceptual traditions of the first Georgian avant-garde artists who worked in Georgia at the beginning of the 20th century and were known as 41°. The name, 41N/41E, indicates the geographic location of Batumi, like that of Istanbul, Rome, Barcelona, New-York, Chicago and Tbilisi and shows Georgia’s connection with the international avant-garde movement.
The Centre is an organizer of annual Street Art festival. Its temporary and permanent exhibitions present works of contemporary artists sharing conceptions of 41°.
