The Batumi Archaeological Museum was founded in 1994. It is an important scientific, educational and cultural centre of the region. Despite its young age, the museum owns a rich and valuable collection of artifacts of the Stone, Bronze and Iron ages, as well as items dating from the Antiquity and the Middle Ages. The exhibition features Greek painted and black gloss pottery, polychrome glassware and adornments, terracotta figurines, bronze ware, glyptic and numismatic items demonstrating strong, long-time political, trade, economic and cultural relationship of local population with Greek, Persian and Hellenistic world as well as Roman and Byzantine civilizations. The Greek and Roman period gold jewelry and silver vessels are displayed in the Museum Treasury.
