The building of the synagogue was constructed in the 1910s with a special permission of Russian Emperor Nicholas II. Designed by S. Volkovich, it s one of the most interesting samples of Jewish religious buildings preserved in Georgia.
A simple hall of the synagogue is divided into three naves by round columns. On the second floor there is a gallery – Azara designed for women. The building is characterized by its main west façade decorated not only with Jewish symbols (David’s star) but also with Gothic-Islamic style elements.
