Constructed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a Pseudo-Baroque style building belonged to a major oil tycoon, A. Rothschild. It served as his residence and office housing the Oil Industry and Trade Society of the Caspian-Black Sea Joint-Stock Enterprise. A rounded corner of the building with a dome and a spire, balconies supported by corbels, open terraces, moulded decorative elements of the façades give the building a pompous look. It is an architectural dominant of one of the central areas in Batumi.
At present the building serves as maternity home.
