This is probably the most important mountain trail in the area of Kavala, mainly for the particular historical and cultural information available. It is a trekking distance of about 10 kilometers, starting from Palaia Kavala village and arriving to Agios Konstantinos a neighborhood at the outskirts of Kavala city. It is known as the “Road of water”. The trail has been recently rediscovered and cleaned. The environmental path of Palaia Kavala is a very good example of how the natural environment of the area can become a touristic asset as it has easy access and manages to bring out in a unique way the beauty of the whole region. Situated close to Kavala – just 15 minutes by car – thus offering an ideal solution for those wishing to escape temporarily from everyday life to a nearby natural scenery. Visitors can combine the walking experience on the environmental path of Palaia Kavala which is formed in a way to follow parallel to the stream of water, passing by an old water mill recently renovated and then continue on the “Road of water” which the trail followed by the water to supply water to the city of Kavala during the Turkish occupation. The trail passes by five stone bridges and meanders over the old covered furrow where the water flowed to reach the impressive aqueduct, “the Arches” in Kavala.
