Presumably, the church was built at the end of the 19th century with the donation of the Armenian manufacturer and oil tycoon A. Mantashev, according to the designs of an Austrian architect R. Marfield who lived and worked in the Russian Empire.
The cross-domed church featuring a bell-tower with a porch on the west side was built of brick and stone. With its spatial distribution and façade decoration the church shows similarity with medieval Armenian church architecture, yet it also displays features of stylistic eclecticism characteristic of the time.
